San Francisco Contemplative Outreach Newsletter, 2010
Mary Wyman has stepped down after three years as Coordinator of Contemplative Outreach Chapter of San Francisco, Sonoma, Marin and San Mateo counties. Mary English assumes the Coordinator role, with George Biniek leading the Prison Ministry team, Vickie Bolts leading the Centering Prayer as the 11th Step team and Ruah Bull organizing Introductory Workshops. Catherine Regan of Mercy Center and Eileen Halliburton of East Bay will continue to offer a broad array of enriching Centering Prayer retreats. Click here to email Mary English.
Mary Wyman wishes to thank all the wonderful people who supported past events featuring speakers Thomas Keating, William Menninger, Richard Rohr and Terry Ryan. These extraordinary men have led the way to a spiritual revolution that has enriched us all. In addition, wonderful sponsorship of Contemplative Outreach retreats and Introduction to Centering Prayer programs are consistently offered at Mercy Center.
In the past three years, Formation Training for new Introductory Workshop presenters has been given with more than 15 new presenters in northern California who have been credentialed--representing a broad array of interdenominational Christian churches. Three members of Contemplative Outreach have recently been credentialed to offer Centering Prayer as the 11th Step retreats. And the Centering Prayer Prison Ministry has become a strong program with Centering Prayer volunteers visiting weekly at more than a dozen prisons and jails in northern California.
Excellent relationships exist among the four big chapters of San Francisco, East Bay, Sacramento/Stockton and Fresno and deepest thanks go to Bill McLennan as webmaster of the Contemplative Outreach of northern California groups. Please visit www.contemplativeoutreach-norcal.org .
Mary Wyman will continue working for Contemplative Outreach, but is currently spending 10 weeks in Spain, six of which will be spent walking the pilgrimage route of the Camino to Santiago de Compostela from southern France through the Pyranees to Pamplona, then due west to Santiago de Compostela. In the fall of 2010, Mary plans to spend six months in India, teaching English to Tibetans at Dharamsala and volunteering at Maher homes for threatened women and children in Pune, and at the Asha Project in the slums of New Delhi.
